Evergreen Academy is a unique K–12 school with a shorter school week and a Biblical worldview, rooted in both enduring models of ancient learning and modern Biblical neuroscience, at a conscious cost. At Evergreen Academy, we embrace how children actually learn.
Here, we reclaim education for the next generation.

FAQ's
Is Evergreen Academy for "every child", or students with special educational, emotional, or academic needs?
Great question. We get this a lot.
Because we talk about being “neuro-responsive” and designing education around how children’s brains actually work, some families assume Evergreen Academy is primarily a school for students with learning challenges, ADHD, anxiety, or other special needs. That’s not the case.
Brain science is still relatively new to mainstream education, and in many ways, it’s still misunderstood. For years, much of the research around how children learn best was largely taken and reshaped by secular and therapeutic models. As a result, many Christians have been slower to reclaim these insights through a biblical lens. We believe this is a gap the Lord is allowing us to help fill.
At Evergreen Academy, neuro-responsive simply means we teach in a way that honors how God designed every child’s brain to learn. This approach benefits all children — not just those with diagnosed challenges.
Here’s why:
-
Every child’s brain benefits from focused learning blocks, built-in movement, intentional review, and relational connection. These are simply wise, brain-wise teaching.
-
Many gifted and high-achieving students actually struggle in traditional environments because they need deeper engagement, less repetition, and more meaningful connection. Our model often serves them very well.
-
We believe every child is made in the image of God and deserves an education that forms both their mind and their heart. We don’t want to reserve excellent, discipleship-rich education only for certain types of learners.
What kind of child thrives at Evergreen Academy?
Evergreen serves a wide variety of learners. Some students come to us because they are:
-
bright but disengaged,
-
anxious or overstimulated,
-
bored in traditional systems,
-
highly creative,
-
relationally sensitive,
-
leadership-oriented,
-
independently minded,
-
or simply needing a calmer and more connected environment.
Other families are simply looking for an education that aligns more closely with their values and supports healthy childhood development.
Our goal is not to force children into a single mold, but to help each child develop strong roots, healthy identity, wisdom, resilience, and purpose.
Why are so many children struggling in modern education? Many families sense that something feels off in modern childhood and education.
Children are increasingly overwhelmed by overstimulation, excessive screen exposure, social pressure, anxiety, fragmented identity, and environments that were never designed around healthy brain and nervous system development. At Evergreen, we believe children learn best when they feel:
-
safe,
-
seen,
-
connected,
-
emotionally secure,
-
and meaningfully challenged.
That is why relationships, community, and emotional safety are not secondary to learning—they are foundational to it.
Our students can expect meaningful friendships, mentorship, and a loving environment where belonging and character matter just as much as academics. We also intentionally limit unnecessary technology dependence and prioritize:
-
hands-on learning,
-
books,
-
discussion,
-
nature,
-
movement,
-
practical life skills,
-
collaborative projects,
-
and real-world creativity.
Children are not designed to spend most of their developmental years isolated behind screens, overstimulated, or disconnected from meaningful human relationships.
How is neuro-responsive learning different from classical, STEM, or traditional Christian schooling?
While we deeply value many aspects of classical education, STEM education, and Christian schooling, neuro-responsive learning begins with a different foundational question: “How did God design children to actually learn and thrive?”
Neuro-responsive education considers how the brain, nervous system, relationships, environment, movement, stress levels, sleep rhythms, and emotional safety all impact a child’s ability to learn. Rather than focusing narrowly on testing performance or information delivery alone, Evergreen seeks to cultivate the whole person:
-
mind,
-
body,
-
spirit,
-
wisdom,
-
creativity,
-
discernment,
-
leadership,
-
and purpose.
What is Biblical Brain Science exactly, and why is it relevant to today's education?
Modern Biblical Neuroscience is basically asking: How did God actually design the brain to learn best? Then we try to build education around that instead of forcing kids to fit an industrial model. A lot of what we do in traditional school fights against how God made children’s brains to develop, especially the need for security, repetition, relationship, movement, and real-life experience. When we honor how God designed us, kids tend to learn better and their faith has a better chance to take root. Some examples would be our Q&A as each class session closes, our school-wide Recall Assembly at the day's end, our commitment to our culture and community, or even our school day also beginning slightly later to protect healthy sleep rhythms. Brain science tell us that nervous system regulation directly impact memory, attention, emotional regulation, and learning capacity. The Bible reinforces this by showing that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). This is one of many examples of how true Biblical science, including the newly emerging science of our brains, when viewed as designed by God, namely our bodies and how we learn, is not mutually exclusive, but rather fully illuminates our divine Creator.
What curriculum will you be using?
Our prayerful discovery has been that the type of curriculum you choose, while important, does not matter quite as much as the manner in which it is taught and by whom. Our proprietary method allows us to choose admin and teachers that align with our core values, and are trainable and excited to employ timeless learning + modern brain science in their classrooms. We are starting with the why, the purpose given to us by God, the who next, those inclined to fully support this purpose, and move into details like curriculum later. Our Curriculum Committee will prayerfully discern and choose what aligns with our priorities and share these choices in the following weeks.
Why do we believe in a shorter school week?
We believe children need margin to truly flourish. A shorter school week creates space for:
-
deeper rest,
-
family connection,
-
hands-on learning,
-
life skills,
-
creative exploration,
-
apprenticeships,
-
entrepreneurship,
-
outdoor experiences,
-
and recovery from the overstimulation that many children experience in modern culture.
Rather than filling every hour with institutional structure, we believe strategic margin supports healthier nervous systems, stronger families, and more meaningful learning. For many students, the extra days become an opportunity for:
-
co-ops,
-
family projects,
-
community involvement,
-
tutoring,
-
travel,
-
independent study,
-
or simply unhurried childhood.
We have found that when children are emotionally healthy, rested, connected, and engaged, the quality of learning often increases significantly.
Will my child still be academically strong?
Yes. Evergreen is intentionally rigorous, but in a healthier and more individualized way. We prioritize:
-
mastery over memorization,
-
deep understanding over shallow information retention,
-
critical thinking,
-
communication,
-
wisdom,
-
and lifelong learning skills.
Students are challenged appropriately while still being supported relationally and developmentally. Because of our smaller environment and individualized attention, many students actually grow academically faster while experiencing less stress and burnout.
How involved are parents in the Evergreen model?
We view parents as essential partners in a child’s education.
Evergreen was designed to strengthen—not replace—the role of family. Parents are encouraged to stay connected through:
-
recall assemblies,
-
community involvement,
-
communication with teachers,
-
home reinforcement,
-
and participation in the broader culture of the school.
Children learn best when school and home work together in consistency, trust, and shared values. Our desire is to create not just a school, but a healthy learning community where families feel supported, connected, and known.
What does this model practically offer your child?
Evergreen Academy was designed to educate the whole child—not just academically, but mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and developmentally. Practically, this means your child experiences:
-
smaller class sizes and meaningful teacher relationships,
-
a calmer, safer, more connected learning environment,
-
hands-on and discussion-based learning,
-
reduced overstimulation and unnecessary screen dependence,
-
stronger critical thinking and communication skills,
-
and an education intentionally rooted in truth, wisdom, character, and purpose.
Our model is designed to help children not only absorb information, but actually enjoy learning, think deeply, solve problems, create confidently, and build healthy relationships. We believe children flourish when they are known well, challenged appropriately, emotionally safe, and deeply connected to both family and community. Rather than rushing children through standardized systems, we focus on cultivating strong roots that support lifelong growth.
