But you, God, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high.
Psalm 3:3 MSG
Motherhood is often referred to as one of “the greatest things and one of the hardest things.” This is a very real statement; this is why we must have a firm foundation set in God, so we can stand strong and be the moms that He has called us to be.
But you, God, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high. (Psalm 3:3 MSG) There are those days when you are drowning in temper tantrums, spit-up, dirty diapers, dishes, and unending laundry. (How many times do I need to wash the same load before I remember to put it in the dryer?) When you are overwhelmed and just flat out tired, you can breathe and remember the Father is the lifter of your head. He shields you on all sides; this does not mean a shield for a fierce battle (although I admit, there are some days He most definitely is); He is your shield in all ways and in all things. Every day in motherhood, every single day, God is with you. He’s shoring you up on ALL sides and lifting your head. I picture Him bending down and curling his finger under my chin as my head lifts to hear His gentle whisper, “You’ve got this; I am with you. I love you. It’s going to be alright.” Aren’t those the same words we would share with our children if they were overwhelmed?
I have one teenager now and one grown child. As I look back on their early years, I am very thankful for my foundation in Christ and the time I spent with Him. I am grateful for the other moms He put in my life to encourage me along the way. Today I may be in a different stage in motherhood, but those early years prepared me for these years. I am stronger now and hold to the promise He is still holding and surrounding me; He is still lifting my head. Even though my kids are bigger, it does not mean I don’t have hard days; they are just fewer and farther between. I know God is with me, and I will make it through with His direction, love, and faithfulness.
Today take a moment and breathe. Inhale His love and exhale His peace. Let the Father have all your burdens. No matter how small, He wants to take them from you. He wants to refill your strength and restore your joy. Ground your feet in the truth of God’s Word, guard your heart with His promises, and submerge your mind in the depths of His love. Then step back and watch how His perfect peace and laughter will permeate your soul.
God’s glory is all around me! His wrap-around presence is all I need. The Lord is my Savior, my hero, and my life-giving strength, Trust only in God every moment! Tell him all your troubles and pour out your heart-longings to him. Believe me when I tell you—He will help you! Pause in his presence.
Psalm 62:7-8 The Passion Translation
Father, thank You for Your continuous love and grace You pour over me daily. You truly are my Savior and life-giving strength. I humbly come before You and give You all my burdens. I ask for wisdom for every situation I am put into. I declare and stand on this promise that You have grounded my feet and You are my shield and lifter of my head. In Jesus Name, Amen.
